Isla Bonita ⇨ Isla Mujeres, Mexico. ❀
Getting married on Isla Holbox was nothing short of a DREAM ☁︎! It definitely holds a special place in our hearts ♡ (we highly recommend it), but after our wedding we decided to explore another unique place where we had never been before!: ISLA MUJERES. If you’re interested in going to Mexico, but are seeking a new location other than Cancun, here you have it! ⇨ a unique place to explore, plenty to do, & only a 15 min. ferry ride from you’re boarding point at “The Gran Puerto Cancun (Ultramar).”
After some research, we discovered that this island was much larger than Isla Holbox & would require a different kind of planning! In order to explore it to the best of our ability we decided to split up our time by staying 2 nights at the north end & 2 at the south end, a.k.a. “Punta Sur.” Both of our hotels were booked through Expedia, which was overall a great experience that allowed us to gain travel points, save money, & attain the option for free cancellation!
⬆︎ NORTH ISLA vs SOUTH ISLA ⬇︎ (“Punta Sur”)
When you arrive by ferry & step onto Isla Mujeres you are already in the northern region of the island, which is basically the downtown area. This area is most lively with both locals & tourists, many shops & restaurants, live music, places to rent golf carts or book tours, & overall c-o-l-o-r-f-u-l character (the "Crayola House" is an attraction here that definitely exemplifies this)! If you’re looking to sleep in on an intended "restful" vacation, this may not be the best spot for you to nestle down in for the night ☽! Each morning we arose ☼, not by alarm clock, but by the vibrant tunes from a radio next door to where we were staying! Don’t get me wrong, I think its a great idea to start the day off dancing, but sometimes I like me some Z’s! Overall, this is a unique place to wander & meet people, indulge in great food (one of our favorites being “Lola Valentina”), & have yourself a guaranteed night of fun! ⭐︎
We traveled by taxi car (with all of our luggage), to Punta Sur, enjoying the window views of the island as we rode down to our hotel. After 2 days of exploratory experience, we can’t stress enough that Punta Sur is relaxing, & yes, stress-free! The loudest noises we heard came from the ocean waves ♒︎, the swaying palm trees in the breeze, & the birds chirping as they went along their way! It is certainly less bustling as it is less centrally populated in comparison to the Northern part of the island. Depending on where you choose to stay, those little shops where you may desire to buy snacks to stock up on for your hotel room may be out of walking distance-something to keep this in mind (*making your purchases in the downtown area beforehand may be your best bet!)! If you would like to explore your surrounding area we recommend renting a bicycle or golf cart (from downtown) & bringing it along with you (walking by foot is always an option, but things may be farther than you wish!). From where we stayed- “Villas La Joya,” we were fortunate in that it was only a 10-15 min. walk to reach the points of interest including: Garrafón Natural Reef Park, the Mayan Ruins & the light house! Finally, if you are looking to have a scenic dinner overlooking the ocean(or any meal in that case), with homemade Italian food (I know it’s Mexico, but trust me!), please check out: “Casa Rolandi.” Scrum-diddly-umptious!
