New Year, New Eyes. ☆

“Steph’s Adventures: 2016 Edition”--> I hit the rewind button on this VHS tape & I am overwhelmed; I feel like a lot of things happened over this past year, but there are a handful of moments that have left a more distinct mark. I settled back home in Chicago after being away in London for 6 months, I finally got my letter welcoming me into the film production world (something I had been climbing toward for years), & I experienced different relationships that really taught me about myself & ultimately showed me what I will not settle for in life. This year had its trials & its triumphs, & through each, something valuable was added to my basket that I did not have with me before.

Hello 2017. Is it resolution time?!...

A resolution is a means to an end; the remedy for an issue at hand. Out of all the resolutions I have attempted to set year after year, I will honestly say many (if not all) have actually never been fully accomplished. You know what I think it comes down to? Expectation(s). We are constantly putting expectations on other people, ourselves, & what we think our own lives should look like within a certain time frame. This is the perfect equation that will result in utter disappointment & frustration; things get messy when expectations are put into play.

We live in such a go-go world in which everyone is chasing after what they want. Striving for that perfect job, more money, more likes on social media, hunting down their ideal soul mate (bc they declared they would be married before they turned 25), & etc…Ok, I am guilty! Sometimes I catch myself in a state where I just want to have control over my life-even in these areas; I “know what I want,” & I convince myself that it can only be accomplished “this way or that.”

Let me introduce you to the other side of this stressful & unsatisfying way of living; it’s called: surrender(ing).

It can be scary to let go of the stake that has you anchored to the ground, to give up control, & to sacrifice living somewhere with such familiar surroundings. I want to challenge you: LET GO. When you let go, you take off, you soar & can see so much more when you're amongst the clouds! It's multi-dimensional up there⇪. The wind may blow you one way, but there's always someone there to guide you! When you can give up control & let God orchestrate the beautiful plan he has already laid out for you & your life-it is truly the best adventure of all!

"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" (Jeremiah 29:11)

Just because God is in control doesn’t mean I am going to toss my goals & dreams in the garbage. It means that I will continue to run after open doors & opportunities as they present themselves, with God in front as my guide every step of the way! He knows our hearts' desires & will deliver in the right moments. Let's be expectant of BIG things to come in this New Year!

(Imagine: a disco ball, a funky beat, & dancing feet as you read the following declaration!)

This year of 2017- I am putting God first. I cannot wait to see what adventures await, opportunities arise, & flights I will be booked on,...let the countdown begin! Yipeeeeee!!!

"Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4)
